I first read Dillon and the Voice of Odin ten years ago in its initial run. At that point, I could tell this was the beginning of something special, and it turns out I was right. Dillon has since become one of the most popular characters of the New Pulp movement, right up there with the likes of Barry Reese's The Rook. With Dillon, Derrick Ferguson has created a character who is capable of drawing readers in with a mixture of roguish charm and near-superhuman heroics.
If you've read the original, you might be wondering whether or not you should buy this new edition and my response to that is you definitely should. For starters, the entire book has been tightened and errors that slipped through in the original edition have been removed in this. Second, it also kicks off with a new Dillon tale that fits in with this story and helps set the tone for the entire book. And third, the excellent cover designed by Sean E. Ali. I mention that because the cover of the original edition was probably the weakest thing about that release. Sean's name should be known to anyone who has admired his wonderful cover design work at Pro Se Productions and it's great to see his vast talents brought to bear for Dillon!
I truly forgot how I came to read this ebook but when I started to read it, I was surprised at how fast the pace was. It transported you right into the action almost from the very beginning. It was like driving a 3 cylinder engine all your life & then getting into a 12 cylinder sports car at top speed. It was a few pit stops but it was mostly a fast pace ride with great characters and action from 1st page to the last page. I also love how humor is added throughout the novel. I HAD to read more when I quickly finished the book. And, this is my mission - to read all the books in this series. I will also read anything Mr Ferguson had or will put out - I found the words flowing from my tongue soooo easily. DO NOT pass this one up!!!
Interesting character, simple, but fun read.
I don't usually read action/adventure, I'm more of swords and sorcery. Anyway this is not only very entertaining and action packed but at times very funny.
Flat out action from beginning to end. Done very well. It was like watching Raiders of the Lost Ark. No let up from beginning to end. I loved it. Great characters throughout. Best thing I've read in years. I am 56 years old and want to be like Dillon when I grow up!!
Dillon is a really cool character, and this book hearkens back to the old days of pulp, with a little bit of James Bond added in. Action, adventure, intrigue, Ferguson weaves all masterfully through the story. Highly recommended.
